Reckless Girls: A Novel
Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love a good “boat murder” book? Rachel Hawkins says in the acknowledgments of Reckless Girls that this is the book she has been wanting to write since she was twelve years old. And oh how happy am I that she did!
Reckless Girls stars a young woman named Lux who is still trying to find herself. Her boyfriend, Nico, is a free spirit and is hired by two women, Brittany and Amma, to take them on his boat to a desolate island. They want to get off the grid and see what true island life is like. Nico insists that Lux goes along and since the three girls seem to hit it off, it seems like it will be just one big party. When they get to the island, they find there is a couple there as well.
This book was so exciting all the way through. Hawkins does a fantastic job of character development introducing another character who crashes the part. I would have never guessed this ending and I loved how very Lord of the Flies this adventure quickly becomes. Reckless Girls is a must-read for fans of Hawkins, Chevy Stevens, and Sally Hepworth.
