Lou has a unique ability to see the dead and has found a new life for herself with the people of Magnolia Grove. The dead that lurk largely leave her be, allowing her to carve out a peaceful existence. The comfortable life she has found is soon threatened thanks to a cult of necromancers who have taken over the cemetery. Her only option is to turn to the local supernatural community for help if she hopes to return the town to the way it should be.

The story kicks off with a lighthearted tone, showing off Broadway’s ability to blend a ghost story with humor. Lou is a delightful character who is comfortable in her own skin and whose determination knows no bounds. The suspense is rooted in the otherworldly elements, which give the right amount of creepy into the world. The biggest strength in the story is the community that surrounds Lou, specifically the lovable Mortie. His presence is more than a good friend, but a tether that grounds her in the living world. His empathic nature provides her with a support system, along with the kindness and help from others in the community. Queen of the Dead is an eerie and delightful tale with otherworldly suspense, charming community vibes, and necromancers.
