Perfect Bound: How to Navigate the Book Publishing Process Like a Pro

We rated this book:

The world of book publishing has changed a great deal in a past few years. There are greater opportunities for people to publish than have ever been available. Katherine Pickett spent much of her career in the industry as an editor and publishing educator. Now, she has written a book that can educate all those people who dream of having their books in print and in the hands of readers.

This savvy book is chock full of valuable information laid out in a very accessible format. Pickett does not try to carry all the water herself; she has called on many other experts to help in this endeavor. She helps the reader examine the road to publishing. Should one go the traditional route or self-publish? Should one use an agent or go it alone? She explains what kinds of help one can expect from developmental editors and copyeditors, but also what they expect from the writer. She discusses designers, proofreaders, and printing and binding options, all the time reminding the writer or his or her obligation. Books don’t fly off the shelves all by themselves, so marketing and publicity are also covered. Don’t miss this one.
