Out of This World
Out of This World by Maggie Morton is a work of erotic romance that sees heroine Iris, reeling from her breakup, fall into a magical world. She lands, quite literally, on the beautiful dominant Anandra, who takes her in and shows her the ropes, so to speak, of this new land and of BDSM. Anandra awakens a deeply sexual side in Iris that she’s never known as they embark on a journey across the land, richly steeped in magic, to carry a message to the queen.
This book feels like a mash-up of young adult fantasy plot and BDSM. The plot feels predictable, something close to any generic young adult character’s journey of discovery, while the explicit sex scenes feel an afterthought. While the sex scenes aren’t bad, they feel repetitive, and there’s definitely room for further development in the two main characters. While the story contains some surprising and highly creative quirks of magic, and some interesting but predictable plot devices, this is very much a story where the main character’s journey seems to occur more through divine intervention than by any real effort on her part. Readers who already enjoy genre romance may find this book enjoyable.
