One Perfect Couple
Lyla, a scientist, and her boyfriend, Nico, an actor, are signed up for the reality TV show One Perfect Couple. The idea is to take five couples to an island paradise in the Indian Ocean and complete challenges to see which couple will survive. When a tropical storm hits, cutting them off from the boat that dropped them off, things become a literal fight for survival. The bodies start piling up and it seems as if it’s not the storm that causing all the deaths, but perhaps a killer is among them.
I understood the goal of this book was to be similar to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, but the quality of writing is not the same. Ruth Ware’s characters lack the depth of Christie’s. Still, an entertaining read, even if a bit predictable. I like how she plugged one of her own books within her book. If you are looking for a thriller to take on your next beach vacation, this one’s for you. Maybe don’t take it to an island paradise unless you want to start worrying about being stuck there and rationing. Overall, a good choice for Ruth Ware fans.
