In Nine Liars, teen detective Stevie Bell finds herself face-to-face with another mystery, this time in London. Her trip across the pond is supposed to be an educational venture (and an excuse to visit her boyfriend, David), but she can’t resist the opportunity to dig into another cold case when it presents itself. In the 1990s, two college students were murdered in a woodshed on the estate of an English country house while playing nighttime hide-and-seek. Officially, their deaths were chalked up to a burglar, but one of their surviving friends thinks there’s more to the story—and Stevie agrees.
Stevie once again juggles solving this mystery with her own personal struggles: figuring out her academic future, being a good friend, and maintaining her relationship with David. The previous Stevie Bell novel, The Box in the Woods, was already a page-turning follow-up to the first three books in the series, and in Nine Liars, Maureen Johnson delivers an even more thrilling mystery. Readers will enjoy seeing new dynamics emerge among familiar characters as Stevie tracks down another murderer. As always, they will also be eager to see what awaits Stevie next, in both her personal life and in her role as a detective.
