Night Wishes

This book is a beautiful collection of poems selected by Lee Bennett Hopkins and accompanied by excellent illustrations by Jenn Corace. All the poems have to do with bedtime or something a child would be familiar with in their home, with a fun element of imagination added in the form of the illustrations. Kids will be snuggling up as their parents read about the blanket and teddy bear.

The poems are beautiful. I love the whole collection. My personal favorite was ‘Blanket’ because my kids love their blankets absolutely. The illustration style is a little angluar. I love the panels on the pages of the ‘Pillow’ and ‘Blanket’ poems. What a fun idea. I think the style works well most of the time; the only part that is a little strange is the detail of the dog and the less detail of the people and the stuffed animals.

The poems are a good length for kids aged three to seven to listen to a few before bed. I think the illustrations are calming and kids will like the imagination in the pictures.
