Science Fiction has always been a home for big ideas. Whether it’s pondering humanity’s future or past, its potential for wonder or destruction, or the grand possibilities of the universe, sci-fi is the frontier of imagination. But, only in the last 40 years or so have sci-fi films come into their own, embracing advancements in technology and storytelling to create some true modern classics of the genre.

Modern Sci-Fi Films FAQ chronicles many of the genre’s best moments, covering everything from 12 Monkeys to Minority Report, Alien to Alien Nation, and Star Wars to Stargate. While his recaps of various sci-fi films are impressively detailed, a discerning reader will uncover little mistakes that slipped through (a misquote from Poltergeist among them).

But, DeMichael takes you further, offering an inside look at the creation of various sci-fi vehicles and spacecraft, and profiling special effects artists and directors. He concludes his tribute to modern sci-fi with lists of his five personal favorite sci-fi films, and then the five best in his estimation (an important distinction for a sci-fi devotee to make).

Applause Publishing has a fine addition to its film FAQ series with DeMichael’s passionate Modern Sci-Fi Films FAQ.
