Manga Classics: Romeo and Juliet (Modern English Edition)

Romeo and Juliet, one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays, is a tragedy about two star-crossed young lovers willing to go to great lengths to be together. Manga Classics’ adaptation presents the entire story in modern English for easier reading.

This manga version definitely brings the story to life. The illustrations are superb and really make reading Shakespeare so much more fun. Who wants to read the original work when you can read it in manga form? Even my young children are enjoying the story. I never knew Romeo and Juliet could be so funny, but the illustrations of some of the characters are hilarious. In some of the scenes, the characters, especially Juliet’s nurse, are so silly, I can’t help but laugh.

I’ve never been a fan of Shakespeare (I know, it’s a travesty), but this modern adaption in manga form has really made me appreciate the story so much more. This would have been so helpful for me when I had to read Romeo and Juliet in high school. Highly recommended for students studying Shakespeare!
