Manga Classics: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Modern English Edition)
Shakespeare’s famous comedy is fully adapted into modern English in Manga Classics: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Things go awry in the magical forest when King Oberon and Queen Titania start fighting. The mischievous fairy Puck plays a trick and mishaps and chaos ensue due to a little bit of magic flower juice. Lovers quarrel, feelings are hurt, and spelling-binding tricks tire everyone out. Fortunately, all is restored once everyone awakens.
There’s no need for Cliff Notes anymore when you have the Manga Classics adaptations of classic English literature that is always required reading in school. The manga version is so much more fun to read, especially if you are a visual learner. The art is what you would expect from manga; it’s cute, dramatic, and funny. I love the scenes where Queen Titania wakes up and falls in love with Bottom, and Bottom is trying to get away from her. It is hilarious! The illustrator does a fantastic job of making the forest a very magical and enchanting setting. I also love how the illustrator depicted King Oberon as very androgynous, and he is just as beautiful as Queen Titania. Shakespeare fans will delight in this manga adaptation.
