Look Out! It’s a Dragon!

Sapphire is not like other dragons. She doesn’t enjoy sitting on craggy mountains. She has no desire to kidnap princesses or knock down castles. She decides it would be nice to live someplace else, someplace warm and pretty. Sapphire takes to the air and searches for just the right place. When she finds what she thinks is perfect, the animals that live there are afraid of her and run away. But she manages to make friends with one little mouse, until a fiery sneeze ruins everything and Sapphire is banished. All the little animals are attacked by a group of dragons and call for help. It is Sapphire who saves the day, but the habitat has been ruined. What will they all do?

Author/illustrator Jonny Lambert has written a simple little story of acceptance and friendship that will be enjoyed by very young readers. The illustrations are perfectly charming and are the real strength of this book. Unfortunately, the story is rather predictable and resolves much too easily. This will only satisfy the littlest ones and probably won’t have much staying power with them.
