Lick
On the morning after her 21st birthday, Evelyn wakes up on the bathroom floor of a Vegas hotel. She’s hungover, freshly tattooed, and…married? She soon meets her “husband”, David Ferris, guitarist for the mega rock band Stage Dive. Evelyn is an unassuming architecture student from Portland who quickly finds herself in the public eye. She remembers very little of her night with David, however, once they get to know each other, they quickly understand their attraction to each other. Lick is a five star read from cover to cover. From the very first page the story grabbed me with a fun, flirty storyline and likeable, well-developed characters. Evelyn is a tough, independent character with real-life problems. She has body image issues as well as high expectations from her family of how her life should be led. David is seeking a real relationship, one not based on his fame or money. The characters were very real and while the rock star trope has been visited again and again, Ms. Scott’s take was fresh and original. The development of secondary characters as well has made this an excellent starting point for what could be a great new series.
