Jay Boy: The Early Years of Jay Adams
His story was made famous by the movie Lords of Dogtown, and he helped revolutionize skateboarding and surfing into sports where people can make millions. His name is Jay Adams and he passed away at the young age of fifty-three. This collection of photos is a republishing of an earlier book by Jay Adams that was a small-print run. Now in a larger print run, we get to see the young Jay Adams and his friends as they lived and skateboarded in the run-down neighborhoods of Venice, California or surfed out in Malibu. This was before the fame and fortune–and eventually misfortune–that would plague his life. We get to see these young kids having fun at something they enjoyed before the stress of making a ton of money.
It is a different look at a society and how it was changing during this era. Surfing and skateboarding were starting to become more mainstream, but when Jay and his friends started, it was just a way for them to have fun.
