Is This All There Is? Living a Life Beyond Obligation
Is This All There Is? Living a Life Beyond Obligation is a wonderfully written self-help book that will help women everywhere uncover what may be blocking them from living their best lives. Author Monique Verpoort is a certified practitioner in the modality of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), known to many as “tapping”. The book delves into why so many women who find themselves in caregiving roles end up feeling unworthy of self-love or self-care and feel guilty for doing anything that seems “selfish”. The book is divided into chapters such as “The Stories We Tell Ourselves”, “Justifying Our Unworthiness”, and “Challenging Those Beliefs of Unworthiness.” Along the way, Verpoort shares with her readers the different stories of women who have all felt inadequate or unworthy at some point in their lives. One woman felt like it was her destiny to be unhealthy and overweight because it was in her genes.
What made me really excited about this book is that Verpoort teaches her readers about EFT. As someone who has done some tapping and has reaped great benefits from it, I knew this part of the book would be so valuable to readers. Part Three of the book teaches readers about energy and how our bodies work with the energy of those around us and our environments. One of the best ways to see how energy works is in the way laughter or yawning is contagious. Verpoort explain that there are different energy practices including Reiki, a Japanese practice. She describes how energy is transmitted from practitioner to client to help with the body’s natural healing processes.
I found Is This All There Is? Living a Life Beyond Obligation to be a book that really dives deep into why so many women feel unworthy. I really enjoyed the stories Verpoort shared and liked how she introduced the women and their situations in the beginning of the book and then, after explaining how EFT works, told readers how this modality helped each of the women. The book describes each level of EFT, bronze, silver, and gold, and also includes tapping scripts so that anyone can give it a try. This book is full of so many resources to help people understand more about energy work and the science behind it. I would recommend this book to any woman who feels a little stuck in her life and is looking for an alternative method to traditional Western therapies.
