If These Walls Could Talk: San Francisco Giants: Stories from the San Francisco Giants Dugout, Locker Room, and Press Box
How often people say “if I could have been a fly on the wall.” Imagine having that fly in the dugout or locker room of your favorite team. Well, for fans of the San Francisco Giants, there pretty much was a fly on the wall in the form of Chris Haft, a sports writer covering the Giants for the San Jose Mercury News and for Major League Baseball’s online site for many years. Haft has stories to tell, and tell them he does. He really focuses on the dynasty years during which the Giants won three World Series titles. That said, he did meet and interview players from earlier times, the basis for chapters on Juan Marichal (“His Magnificence”), Willie McCovey (“The Nicest Man”), and Willie Mays (“The Man”). Of course, this story could not be told without a chapter on Barry (no last name needed) and one on Candlestick, the late, great park that was so tough in which to play. Much of the book is very up-to-date and filled with lots of information on the great young players who make up the team now. With lively writing and fun facts, Giants fans will eat this one up.
