What if you had a dinosaur as your very own pet? It’s a cool concept, isn’t it? Imagine all the things you could do, all the adventures you could embark on, all the shenanigans you could get into…how everything would change if only you had an enormous dinosaur pal. Well, our young narrator was thinking the same thing, and she’s got plenty of ideas to share with you.

If I Had a Dinosaur is a simple concept executed with humor and heart. A catchy rhyme scheme propels the story forward as a child imagines her life with a dinosaur as her constant companion. Mixing the mundane with the ridiculous, the child asks the things only a child would, like “would a pet dinosaur roar or bark?”

The blocky artwork lends a childlike feel to the book itself, like we’re reading the character’s storybook right alongside her as she creates it, page by page, the giant dinosaur pet dominating the scene every time.

It’s rare that a children’s book truly feels like the product of a child, but If I Had a Dinosaur does exactly that, and it lends the book a homemade charm that many kids’ books lack.
