I Am Not a Penguin: A Pangolin’s Lament
Sometimes it is just so hard to make yourself heard and seen for who you are. Take the poor pangolin in Liz Wong’s I Am Not a Penguin: A Pangolin’s Lament. This poor fellow tries to give a presentation to other animals about himself, but the animals keep interrupting and misunderstanding in humorous ways. Eventually, the pangolin loses his temper in frustration, and the animals leave to follow a very cool penguin. The pangolin is left all alone, but maybe that is just the opportunity needed to find the one someone who is really interested in him?
This is a wonderful story that speaks to persevering to find those who appreciate you for who you are. Along the way, readers discover many interesting facts about the rather unusual pangolin. Indeed, Wong thoughtfully adds even more facts at the end of the story for those whose interest might be piqued. In sum, Wong has written a delightful tale that offers valuable lessons while making kids laugh.
