How to Meditate Without Even Trying (Eckhart Tolle Editions)

The title of this book is quite humorous because, of course, the harder one tries with just about anything, the outcomes will be forced. This little book teaches us to relax and make time to enjoy the stillness of the process. The author has included beautiful quotes about the process as chapter headings. While the foreword by Eckhart Tolle encourages us that anyone can benefit from the book, this reader would recommend it to a meditation-curious reader. The author anticipates what may stymie a newcomer to meditation and is quite encouraging about staying with it. His method stresses effortlessness, which is actually deceptively difficult. The appendix summarizes core practices and refinements. One of the refinements, which is detailed in the text, is the tension and anxiety that is engendered in thinking. For this, he practices a smooth “go with the flow” approach. This book will encourage beginners to give it a try without self-criticism or impatience.
