Herbs for Common Ailments
This book is infinitely readable with easy-to-follow instructions. The simple line drawings frequently accompanying the herbs and their details seem better served as decorative flourishes than a service to help with identifying growing herbs. The section on understanding herbs includes brief overviews of the safety of herbs and using them as a complementary therapy. Certain sections provide in-text citations for further reading, such as the growing your own herbs, an area that seems overly brief. In other sections, Gladstar doesn’t provide specific references, explaining one should consult any one of the encyclopedic herbal compendiums. The section on making the herbal remedies succinctly explains the instructions for more than 8 different types of formulations. Making syrup, for example, is laid out simply in six steps. The heart of the book contains short descriptions of the herbs you should consider for a variety of purposes. Have the previous edition? The compact size of Herbs for Common Ailments might appeal to you for keeping with your traveling home herbal kit.
