With no home and on the run, Aissa, Zandria, and Remy no longer know who to trust. Not even each other. Together, they use clues to search for a sanctuary where books of spells, and any hope they have left, are hidden. But the rift between the Magi and the Technocrats may be too great to fix, especially when both leaders want war. Together, the trio look for a solution, but they don’t all agree on what the outcome should be: a treaty and peace or the annihilation of a people.
In this sequel to Twin Daggers the stakes are higher than ever; trust was broken and must be mended while Zandria’s stay in the dungeon continues to affect her through the book. Aissa is the only character who really changes and grows noticeably. Other characters are added that are important to the plot, but felt like the only other value they had is for romantic interest. Overall, it was a satisfying conclusion to the duology.
