Heart of Gold: A Blessings Novel

Award –winning author Beverly Jenkins is hailed on her website as “the nation’s premier writer of African-American historical romance fiction.” She specializes in depicting nineteenth-century African-American life. The latest novel in her faith-based, women’s fiction Blessings series is Heart of Gold, the continuing story of the happenings in a little town called Henry Adams.

Ten-year-old Zoey has a secret and it’s ruining her Saturday. Crystal, another adopted girl in town, ran away the night before, swearing Zoey to secrecy. By morning, the town is all abuzz with the news, and Zoey has to tell the town founder, Ms. Bernadine, what she knows about Crystal’s whereabouts.

The town of Henry Adams, Kansas has seen its fair share of upheaval since Bernadine Brown bought the foreclosed town with her divorce settlement (Bring On the Blessings). Just when things are starting to settle down, Bernadine’s adopted daughter Crystal has run away from home, her contrary and uppity sister Diana has come to visit, and a saddlebag of gold has been left to Zoey by the ornery Cephas Patterson.

Whoever said small towns are boring has obviously never visited Henry Adams.
