Golden Prey
Garvin Poole is a wanted man who is still looking to scratch the greed itch. He gets a tip from an associate that leads to a drug robbery in the Deep South. The robbery nets $7 million, but five people are executed, including a little girl. Lucas Davenport has a plum assignment in the US Marshals service, his previous work and heroism have led to the choice assignment. His assistance to a political candidate in the previous year has led to his current posting. He is faced with resentment from peers but also earns respect for his ability to close cases. He chooses the pursuit of Poole and the adventure begins. Poole is on the run, dodging Davenport and dogged investigators Bob and Rae; he is also being pursued by two vicious assassins. The clock is ticking, and the question remains as to who will catch Poole while the body count climbs?
Golden Prey is the latest page-turner by John Sandford to keep the lucky reader spellbound. The antagonists are unique in their individual stories, though they are all united in greed. Davenport is human but always entertaining and exciting. The dialogue is constantly crisp. A fun read for the beginning of the summer.
