Magpie is going through severe postpartum depression and turns to a last resort in an immersive virtual reality experience that has her pulling apart and analyzing her problems under the guise of a trained psychotherapist, as she is scrutinized by computers and sensors and a pair of watchers. This isn’t their first rodeo and they think her another simple patient to be easily “cured.”

But things take a dark turn when Magpie appears to have gone “full immersion” in her imaginary world, where she is quite literally taking over and running the show. They don’t know the trouble they’ve gotten themselves into as parts of Magpie’s fear and despair begin leaking out into the real world and changing things. What will it take to make them realize they’re in way over their heads?

In this harrowing, moving novel, Gemma Amor leaves the reader on the metaphorical ropes, running the gamut of emotions, and then skillfully brought back to a satisfying finish. Part terrifying horror novel and part moving story of a parent trying to find her lost love for her child and husband, Full Immersion is quite unlike any other book, and it will stay with you for a very long time.
