Fly Guy Presents: Dinosaurs
The third Fly Guy book in Scholastic’s nonfiction series, Fly Guy Presents: Dinosaurs features another of Fly Guy and Buzz’s explorations, and this time into the world of dinosaurs at a natural history museum. Arnold has a knack for mixing striking photography with his popular characters, which is an eye-catcher that immediately draws the attention of Kindergarten through 2nd graders. Equally appealing is his narrative that not only includes copious amounts of information about dinosaur history, classification, skeletons, and fossils, but also phonetic pronunciations of paleontological terminology — all set in a large Comic Sans-type font.
Arnold incorporates a section toward the end of the book about paleontologists and their recent discovery in 2013 about the now-factitious Brontosaurus, which was mistaken as a new dinosaur species. Though this attractively-designed book is largely informational, there is a wonderful incentive for readers to scrapbook since a good handful of pages display Fly Guy’s collection of pictures with captions.
A fun and highly educational read, Fly Guy Presents: Dinosaurs has all the qualities needed to capture young readers attention as well as whet the palette of future scientists.
