Ten has been imprisoned in the Prynne Asylum by her parents because she refuses to let them choose where she will go after she dies. She has two choices, Troika or Myriad. The realms are deadly rivals, determined to win Ten over to their side and send their own emissaries to convince her to sign with their realm. Ten does not know who she can trust and where she truly belongs but time is running short to make her choice.

This book is going to be a testament of patience to Gena Showalter fans. The first quarter of this book is truly a struggle to get through and many will be tempted to quit reading. However, the rest of the book is worth wading through the beginning and once it takes off it is difficult to put the book down. The characters are complex, compelling and will cause readers to fall in love with even the characters one would expect to despise. There is a lot of world building going on and is part of the reason the first part drags but by the end it will leave you anxiously awaiting the next book.
