Exodus: The Archimedes Engine
This brick of a novel, at nearly 1,000 pages, is certainly thick and serves as an introduction to a new RPG game. Still, without knowing much about the game, readers may struggle to care about the various characters and what is happening despite the best efforts of Mr. Hamilton. The action occurs among the stars over 40,000 years in the future when humanity has abandoned a dying Earth in vast space arks. Several arks arrive at the Centauri Cluster and call the others to join them. During the time it takes for other ships to come, the original settlers have advanced beyond being human and look down on the new arrivals as little more than worker bees and cattle. Finn, a young man of privilege, dreams of adventuring across the universe and struggles to get past his upper-class view of the universe until he stumbles upon humans who have just arrived from one of the last remaining space arks. He will help them lead humanity on a new adventure and freedom.
It takes a long time for really anything to happen, and since it is so thick, it does not even complete the story. Those who play the game will enjoy this more.
