Esoteric Hollywood:: Sex, Cults and Symbols in Film

We rated this book:

“Esoteric,” according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is defined as designed for or understood by the specially initiated alone. Esoteric Hollywood views movies and television in a whole new light, where language and symbols can be interpreted in a spiritual light, some light and some dark. Each chapter is devoted to a different film, from Eyes Wide Shut to The Shining to 2001: A Space Odyssey. From elite groups’ attempt at mass control to the role of technology in enslaving man, the author attempts to unravel hidden gems in each film. From there the reader is taken on a ride through adventures and secret meanings in fantasy pictures such as Logan’s Run, Labyrinth, and Blade Runner. The last part of the book delves into the CIA and the military-industrial complex’s permeation of Hollywood as well as the occult imagery in the work of David Lynch. Topics vary from predictive programming to the existence of alien life to the Illuminati. The author seeks to unravel the elaborate webs that some of cinema’s greatest storytellers have woven. Will the movies ever seem the same way again?

Jay Dyer’s Esoteric Hollywood is a carefully researched diamond in the rough. Each movie is gone over with a fine tooth comb, dissecting plots and characters and unearthing sly messages left by the auteurs in their work. Some of the creators have an agenda to push, while a few are trying to present a truth that others have tried to keep buried. Either way, this book is enjoyable to say the least. There is an understated genius that underlies the author’s work. A must-read for movie buffs!
