One of the great pleasures of visiting London is finding a neighborhood pub, settling in, and chatting up a few of the locals – always friendly and interesting folk. One can always find a variety of beers and ales, decent pub food, and usually a rack of books to trade. But that is not all London has to offer in the way of drinking establishments. There are over 7000 bars and pubs in London. Euan Ferguson spent the last few years visiting and writing about drinking establishments for a London newspaper. Clearly, he knows his business. This little book, perfect to slip into one’s purse or jacket pocket at about six inches on each side, lists 100 of the best, separated into categories such as Legendary Locals and With a Twist. Each place has a short write-up along with a photograph, a suggestion for the Essential Order, the address, phone number, website, and tube stop. There is a general map in the front and a tube map in the back along with a list of all the establishments for one to tick off as one visits them. This is a fun companion to more general travel books.
