Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 1
Goku and his friends are back, and once more the world is in danger. This takes place after the end of the Boo Saga, and the world is at peace and Goku is bored. While Lord Beerus, God of Destruction, causes chaos across the universe, he comes to Earth looking for the ultimate Saiyan God. While Goku must fight to protect Earth, the volume quickly turns into yet another fighting tournament between the strongest of Universe 6, our universe, and the strongest of Universe 7 in a competition over whether Earth will stay in Universe 6 or be moved to the rival of Lord Beerus’s in Universe 7.
If the plot seems a bit ridiculous and also a bit shallow, you would be correct–it is. But that is not why people have fallen in love with the Dragonball series to begin with; it is supposed to be action-packed and not bogged down in story lines or plots that make sense. It is supposed to be fights between powerful super beings. And this volume delivers that, but it’s not always as enjoyable as the first Dragonball was. The story is even more silly, and the action, while nice, feels forced.
