Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Volume 7 – War of Gods
Despite the Tenth Doctor’s best efforts and the good intentions of the Osirian known as Anubis, the evil Sutekh who once menaced the Fourth Doctor has returned to unleash death on the entire universe! And worse yet, he’s not alone. As Sutekh frees old threats previously vanquished by the Doctor, he hopes to keep the Doctor busy while his master plan goes into effect. Can the Doctor save the day once more? And if so, at what cost?
The long-running story of Anubis and the Osirians comes to a close in Volume 7: War of Gods, and the scale feels suitably epic and climactic, what with the entire universe in peril.
Still, that takes a backseat to the Doctor’s companions Cindy and Gabby finally sharing a much-needed (and overdue) talk about their relationship and why they both sought to travel with the Doctor. The moment is all too brief, but it feels like solid movement forward for two characters who have already long since proven themselves worthy additions to the pantheon of great companions.
Although the storyline’s conclusion feels a little easy, given the monstrous, godlike forces at play, War of Gods does wrap up all the loose ends nicely, even offering some clever callbacks to earlier moments in the Tenth Doctor’s comic run, as well as earlier incarnations of the Doctor.
