Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Volume 3 – Conversion
In the aftermath of the Doctor’s hellish turn as the CEO of ServeYouInc, he and the TARDIS aren’t on the best of terms. And with the Talent Scout lurking about and a shapechanging entity out there lost, confused, and dangerous, the Doctor will need his TARDIS and his friends more than ever.
Conversion wraps up the ongoing storyline of ServeYouInc and the Doctor’s new trio of companions, and, for the most part, Ewing and Williams pull it off. Seeing the long-term consequences of the Doctor’s betrayal in the previous volume play out was done with heart and sincerity, not brushed under the rug for the sake of plot convenience. It was a bold choice that works quite well.
For the first time in this run of Eleventh Doctor comics, it feels like everyone got to shine. Alice, Jones, and ARC all had strong, well-deserved character moments, and the relationship between the TARDIS and the Doctor is tested like never before. It’s weird and sand-slippery at times–like Moffat’s more indulgent timey-wimey tales–but the emotional core is solid and engaging.
I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing what Ewing and Williams have in store for the Eleventh Doctor next.
