Doctor Who: Event 2015 – The Four Doctors
When Clara uncovers a photo of three Doctors together, she knows something catastrophic must have taken place, and she goes to extraordinary lengths to contact Gabby and Alice, the companions of the other two Doctors, to prevent this from happening. Unfortunately, someone is playing a very long game with the Doctor, and the three of him (with a little help from one more Doctor) must unravel the motivations of a threat dating back to the Time War itself.
Get ready for a LOT of timey-wimey nonsense, because Four Doctors is as chaotic and as internally twisting as it gets. Bouncing around not only in time but within its own narrative structure, this story is downright weird, and not the fun kind of weird. The bickering of the Doctors was far more irritating than it was charming or funny, and this Day of the Doctor retread stumbles instead of soaring.
The one real takeaway from this misfire is the interaction of Alice (Eleven’s companion), Gabby (Ten’s companion), and Clara (traveling with Twelve), who all get a chance to show off their wits and what they’ve learned from their time with the Doctor. If they’d gotten the spotlight instead, this could’ve been great.
