Dinosaurs and a Dirigible
Going back in time to hunt dinosaurs—it sounds like a sportsman’s dream come true. But for Vickers, the man who accompanies these people into the past and tries to keep them alive, it’s an ongoing nightmare.
Dinosaurs and a Dirigible is a collection of time travel stories all centering around hunting creatures outside of time, either dinosaurs in the modern day or modern humans in the age of great beasts. And the four Vickers stories even feel a little throwback at times, like Tarzan stories or Conan the Barbarian dime novels. There is some repetition here—I think the hammering of “what happens when you take entitled, self-important goons and hand them the power of life and death over dinosaurs” gets a little tedious by the fourth story—but the fifth story, “Travellers,” proves to be a welcome breath of fresh air, a subtle tale amid showy action pieces.
Dinosaurs and a Dirigible is all about transporting you to another world, and these stories do so effectively. Whether you want dinosaur-fueled action or a glimpse of an alternate past, Drake has you covered.
