The world is not what it once was. Very few people are left in the barren wasteland the Earth has become. Magdala has been on her own in the desert for the last seven years. Despite her clubfoot, she has managed to survive and decides it’s time to make the pilgrimage to the holy city of Las Vegas to be healed. She kidnaps an exiled priest to guide her along the way. As they travel the desert, they have to be wary of desperate men, the harsh landscape, desert sickness, and Desert Creatures, things that were once humans, plants, and animals but are now a mixture of all three. Magdala and the priest will discover that salvation lies in the most unlikely of places.
I can honestly say I have never read a post-apocalyptic book like this one. Both Magdala’s and Elam’s characters blossomed over the period of the story and grew in ways I would never have imagined. These characters stood out from among the rest of humanity, who were exactly what you think humanity would be like at the end of the world. If you enjoy survival in the apocalypse stories, you will like this.
