This is a chaotic mix of Norse, Greek, and Roman mythology with seraphim, archangels, demons, and dragons thrown in for good measure. Death Doesn’t Bargain is the second book in Kenyon’s Deadman’s Cross series and brings back Devyl Bane and his cursed crew of pirates in a race to protect the world from hellish damnation.

Cameron Jack is finding her own wings as seraphim among the cursed pirates of Devyl Bane’s ship. But just as she captures the attention of merciless Kalder Dupree, the merman sacrifices himself to save Cameron and the rest of the crew. What the evil demons don’t count on is Cameron’s own resolve to see Kalder rescued, even if it means risking her own life to get him back. But in the rush to flee attacks from creatures spawned from the deep, old wounds and ancient secrets surface and threaten the Deadmen with eternal death.

If you are a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon and can’t get enough of her fantasy/romance writing, Death Doesn’t Bargain will keep you reading until you’re finished, but only to find yourself waiting for the answers in the next book.

Chris Hayden been working at City Book Review since 2012, so that makes him the keeper of knowledge. He manages the office and book reviewers (all 200 of them!), which is no small feat. If you’re looking at the book reviews here, you’re seeing them because he sent the books out for review. Without him, this place would fall apart, because no one else in the office knows how to use the postage machine. Two words: job security.
