Dark Road Home: A Gin Sullivan Mystery

Gin Sullivan had built a good life for herself in Chicago, working in the medical examiner’s office and developing an expertise on working with badly decomposed bodies through work in Bosnia. When her long-missing sister, Lily’s, body is found, Gin heads back to tiny Turnbull, Pennsylvania to insert herself into the murder investigation. But returning home opens a lot of old wounds. Jake, the true love of her life, had long been thought by many to be responsible for Lily’s disappearance, and it was thought he had been protected by his chief-of-police father. But there are more family secrets buried in this small town that lead Gin on a twisted trail to truths almost impossible to believe.

Author Anna Carlisle has created a fascinating cast of characters in a mystery that is nearly too twisted to be believed, but somehow she carefully weaves a complicated tapestry of fiction that comes into focus to make sense to the reader. Her writing is crisp, and her attention to detail is exceptional. Tying up all the loose ends in this story takes a deft hand, and Carlisle has it. Protagonist Gin Sullivan may well have more mysteries to solve.
