Dark Rivers to Cross: A Novel
Lena Blackwell is a hard-working woman raising her two boys while running a successful inn in Northern Maine. Even though she has built this idyllic life, her past is still haunting her. As her boys grow up, her older son becomes curious about their past. Then he starts asking questions, and Lena’s peaceful existence slowly slips away as old fears take root. As she desperately tries to keep her secrets hidden and her boys safe, she can’t keep her past from catching up with her.
This nail-biter, an on-the-edge-of-your-seat novel, had me hooked from the beginning. I normally do not enjoy this level of suspense; I’m the one that yells at the movie screen and reads ahead in the novel, but this story had me riveted, so instead, I just read faster. There were some great twists and turns, and the characters were authentic and endearing. This story invoked a lot of emotions, and I found the end satisfying. Overall I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspenseful mysteries. Thank you to Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to review this novel.
