City of Light, City of Dark
City of Light, City of Dark is the tale of two kids saving their city from eternal darkness. Each year, the Kurbs, rulers of the city, hide their power in a random object. The people have to figure out what object has the power, and then find it in the huge city. Failure to complete the task will result in the joyful city of light transforming into a gloomy city of dark. Finding the object this year has been harder than ever before because of a villain. Mr. Underton, a blind rogue, believes that if he finds the object before the others, it’s power will give him his eyesight back. But if the power is used for just one man’s needs, the rest of the city will have to suffer the wrath of the Kurbs.
This graphic novel will leave readers on the edge of their seats, flipping pages by the second. If you’re looking for an easy, light read, the book might not meet your standards. Putting such a labyrinthine story in just illustrations with only a few sentences is a hard task, but Avi does a terrific job. The pictures are eye catching and very detailed. City of Light, City of Dark has exactly everything a good graphic novel should have. An enticing plot line, amazing art, dynamic characters…his book is the whole package!
