Checking You Out

Lizzie can’t imagine a life, or love, without books. When she learns that someone else has checked out her favorite book from the library, her friends encourage her to start leaving notes. She has some ideas for who the other reader might be…maybe Henry, her forever crush who loves learning too? Or there’s Dylan, who just started volunteering at the rescue. He seemed cool, but the sneer sent her way at the sight of her book was enough to stop her completely. What she doesn’t know is that Dylan, who transferred senior year, is just trying to finish out school and avoid a repeat of the worst moment of his life. He’ll keep up the jock vibe, even if it means giving up what he loves most, and maybe missing out on the love of his life.

Very short alternating points of view within chapters keep this book moving quickly. Both characters are lively and fun, and the banter is adorable. Love notes about books, love notes about love, love notes about cute itty bitty kitten rescues – Chen took a page out of all the best parts of reading and books and love and plopped them in. Just adorable.
