Charmian Kittredge London: Trailblazer, Author, Adventurer
An Interesting Woman I’ve Never Heard Of…
I thoroughly enjoyed Iris Jamahl Dunkle’s biography of Charmian Kittredge London. The book bills Mrs. London as a trailblazer, author, and adventurer…really though only trailblazer and adventurer deserve much credit in this work.
The book spends plenty of time discussing the writing of Mrs. London however it is noted that her work is often lengthy and sometimes difficult to read and that she really benefited from having her husband Jack edit her work. After his death, she had a much harder time publishing her work and receiving the same time of praise her early work received.
The most interesting parts of the book were the descriptions of her life. I was fascinated and completely pulled in when the author would describe Charmain’s early life or trips that the London’s took and I found that I couldn’t put the book down and just had to know “what happened next.”
You don’t have to know anything about Jack or Charmain London to read this book as the author gives you a complete and well-researched history. I would recommend this to my friends and family as it was a very enjoyable biography.
