Danny Hart thought the worst was finally behind him and that his biggest worry now was hiding his relationship with the clock spirit Colton. Then he receives word that clock towers have fallen in India, and he’s sent to India to investigate. Events quickly spiral as Danny discovers that the British occupation is setting off a chain of events that could endanger them all. As Colton waits for him, he makes a startling revelation about his past and receives a note that threatens Danny’s life. Colton’s willing to risk everything to save him, even if it means leaving the safety of his tower.

Danny is a commendable character, driven by his love for Colton and haunted by recent events, with a compassionate and intelligent personality. He has a gift of seeing the clock spirits as more than an invisible force of time. Forbidden love plays a key role, as it’s a constant thread throughout, but it’s the historical context that drives most of the danger, with circumstances easily relating to today. Romance does add to the danger, but it also provides a sweet and beautiful tone to the story. The twists are surprising and genuinely unexpected. The danger escalates with every page as Tara Sim brilliantly weaves together layers of story that find the beauty in every detail and uses a keen eye to bring this Victorian world to life.

Chainbreaker is the second book in the Timekeeper trilogy.
