Can You Survive an Aritificial Intelligence Uprising?: An Interactive Doomsday Adventure
You’re a survivor in a world where most of humanity has been wiped out by aggressive artificial intelligences. Do you hide or engage them head-to-head? Negotiate or fight? Which survivors do you trust? Which do you sacrifice?
These are some of the questions posed in You Choose‘s latest Choose Your Own Adventure doomsday scenario, Can You Survive an Artificial Intelligence Uprising?
Whereas in previous scenarios where you’re pitted against a disaster and survival is the name of the game, in this story, you have intelligent adversaries, which creates a different sort of tension entirely. Unfortunately, unlike the other entries in the series, the choices here feel more arbitrary than most, because so much depends on human interaction rather than solid survival instincts. Imagining the worst of humanity dooms you in one choice, but saves you in another. It’s all a bit specious.
True, not all of the choices suffer from this flaw; many smaller ones follow a logical progression but when key choices that kick start major plot lines in the book don’t feel genuine, the book as a whole suffers.
You Choose has been a great series so far, but this is one of their weakest efforts.
