Balancing Act: Teach, Coach, Mentor, Inspire
While Balancing Act: Teach Coach Mentor Inspire by Dr. Andrew Temte contains some bits of wisdom on how to help you and your employees achieve both success and balance, this book could have been much better had the author left his antiquated, judgmental opinions out of it.
Dr. Temte discusses how workplaces are currently evolving, and how leaders need to also evolve. Temte gives insights on the importance of education, lifelong learning, and effective communication, leading with empathy and care, and the value of aligning goals and standards with your company and your employees. One chapter I enjoyed discussed the importance of diversity, and how having a diverse organization encourages your employees to bring their whole, authentic selves to work.
However, the judgmental opinions mentioned above (such as way the author blamed bullying on “broken homes and families” and talked down about folks who choose to watch shows like The Real Housewives) soured my opinion of the book overall and distracted me from some of the more positive messages the book may have had to offer.
