Awakened: A Novel
Something terrifying has Awakened. Mayor Cafferty, as well as hundreds of other witnesses, including the President of the United States, are watching as New York unveils its newest subway line. This state-of-the-art express train connects Brooklyn, Manhattan, New Jersey, and Staten Island by running underneath the Hudson River. It’s taken years to plan and construct this train. Now the day is here, and the mayor’s own wife is on the inaugural run. As the train pulls into the station, there is only horror. The passengers are all missing, and the train car is covered in blood. Cafferty and his team will discover that there are things that live in the dark, and they won’t stop until we’re all dead.
This book was fantastic, exactly what I’m looking for in a horror story. Personally, I love creature horror stories the best. I thought the authors did a great job writing this story. It has some plausibility as well as outrageousness that make it fun. It was set up nicely to be a trilogy without leaving you frustrated. The only part I hated was when they killed off one of the best characters. I get it in relation to the plot, but I still wanted him to live.
When there is more than one author writing a book, you never know if it will flow smoothly or not. I thought these authors wrote well together. It never came across as if two separate people were trying to tell the same story. The characters were great and easy to get attached to, making it frustrating when they got killed off.
Overall, a great book that I would definitely recommend. If you enjoy horror or creature stories, this book is for you. Just don’t read it while riding the subway or exploring subterranean areas.
