Always, in December: A Novel
Wow, that ending literally had me gasping out loud.
I went into reading Always, in December by Emily Stone with the expectation of just another holiday romance book. Just in time for the season to kick off, I snuggled up with a blanket and a cup of tea, only to have my heart ripped out! Moreover, I’m okay with that. Although it wasn’t what I was expecting, I still enjoyed it. Just don’t expect a Hallmark movie with this one.
Always, in December tells of how a chance encounter brings Josie and Max together at the most festive time of the year. Heartbroken and having recently split from her boyfriend, Josie is distracted by the memories of her parents when she literally crashes into Max. Despite this, Max convinces the anti-Christmas Josie to spend time with him over the next few days as he waits for his flight to his family for the holidays. The story follows Max and Josie over the first few days and then later as the year progresses.
I really enjoyed Stone’s characters and writing. Although it wasn’t what I was expecting, it was a great story overall.
