All I Want: A Novel
All I Want is a room somewhere, Emma thinks to herself. And that’s exactly what she’s going to get when her husband, Ben, finds a Victorian mansion for sale in upstate New York. They’re expecting their first baby in a few months and this seems perfect for raising their child. But like every old house, this one has stories attached to it, and not all of them are good. Strange things begin happening and Emma wonders if she’s losing her mind. The truth might be harder to grasp than she realizes.
Unfortunately, I had forgotten that Darcey Bell wrote A Simple Favor, which I did not like at all, when I started reading this. I decided to give it a try anyway, since the plot sounded better. The idea was a good one, but it was not well executed. Her twists and turns are more about shock and awe, making no sense in the larger story. The ending didn’t even make the slightest sense. The characters lacked any depth at all and so far, every book I’ve read of Bell’s seems to focus highly on sex and affairs and less on the plot or character depth. Not a book worth reading.
