Age of War: Book Three of The Legends of the First Empire
Age of War is the third installment in Michael J Sullivan’s epic Legends of the First Empire series. As war threatens, Persephone has to make a hard choice with world-shattering consequences to get the clans to unite and take the fight to the Fhrey. As with the others in the series so far, this was an awesome read. I’ve loved Sullivan’s works since the Riyria books. I bawled at the end of this book! One of my favorite characters ended up dying. And I felt so bad for Suri at the end. She’s so precious. I just want to protect her, though she is far from needing it. I just hope she doesn’t decide she’s done with people and retreats back to the forest. I wouldn’t blame her, though. There are more to links to the Riyria books too. I love that there are so many strong women in this series, including Persephone, Suri, Brin, and Arion. Each is very necessary to the war effort. I’m very much looking forward to reading the next two installments, and I hope Sullivan continues to write in this world for a long time to come!
After editing at City Book Review for a few years, I took up the duties of editorial assistant, which include assigning books for review, posting reviews to our various sites, and nagging reviewers for things. In my non-nagging time, I’m a gamer, artist, writer, and notorious black thumb/bane of plants. My answer to every book-related question: read Octavia Butler.
