A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes and Poems (Nosy Crow Classics)
The littlest of listeners love the rhythm and rhyme of simple poetry. This is a wonderful collection of over a hundred poems and songs, most with which the adult readers will be familiar, poems like Do You Know the Muffin Man? and Ladybug, Ladybug. Some are poems that, through the years, have been put to music, and readers will be more comfortable singing them than reading them. These include Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain and Itsy, Bitsy Spider. These poems are, for a large part, rhymes that have come down through the ages by oral tradition, and all are in the public domain, so there are very few poems that have an author attribution. The poems are arranged from one to five on a spread, depending on their length. Each spread has a gorgeous illustration by Frann Preston-Gannon that supports the rhymes and will help to keep little listeners engaged with the book. The illustrations are done in rich colors, are filled with lovely details, and are on heavy paper. This will be a perfect gift for a baby shower or for a little one’s first birthday.
