Rockton is a town that has a controlled number of citizens in it. Each member of the community must have a special skill set. Detective Casey Duncan and her husband Eric Dalton, who is the deputy sheriff of the town, work together to solve the latest mystery. A woman is found with slashes all over her body. She is in and out of consciousness, and when she is awake, she turns violent and speaks in a language that is unknown to Casey. As Casey and Dalton dig deeper and try to find out who the mystery woman is and what happened to her, they uncover secrets that go back to the earliest days of the settlement.

A Stranger in Town was a bit hard to follow because there are so many characters from different “tribes.” There are the hostiles, the people of Rockton, the people who live in the wilderness, and then the outsiders whom Casey and Dalton are trying to figure out. I think my favorite part of the book was Storm, the Newfoundland. Aside from his amazing tracking instincts, the book fell flat in terms of its storyline and was really all over the place.
