A Spark Unseen sweeps us back into a vivid world of steampunk Victorian London. France and England are in a race to rule the seas, and devious men from both sides will do anything to get their hands on the clockwork fish capable of sinking an iron ship. Our heroine Katherine Tulman will need to go to great lengths to keep her Uncle Tully safe, for the weapon innocently sprang from his mechanically brilliant but childlike mind and only he knows how it works. They flee into hiding, a feat in itself with her Uncle being prone to violent tantrums when faced with unfamiliar places.

With an adventurous twist on real points in history, this sequel does not disappoint. The characters are boldly brought to life, especially the determined Katherine and her rambunctious maid, Mary. Katherine is driven by her protectiveness of her uncle and her solid belief that Lane Moreau is still alive. Unfortunately, she finds her hiding spot not as incognito as she thought. She is thrown challenge after challenge and bravely faces down each one. Cameron’s storytelling delights with a few great twists, surprises, and triumphs that make this story worthy of its predecessor.
